BAIC’s Saab-derived C70G makes its official debut in Beijing

Beijing Auto (BAIC), who purchased the production rights to the old Saab 9-3 and 9-5 revealed the C70 to the press a few days ago. Today, it made its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show.

Apparently BAIC has adapted the old Saab platforms into a new platform they called the “M-trix.” In addition to the C70G, there will be at least three other vehicles riding this platform: the C50 and C60 sedans and the C51X CUV, which also made their debut in Beijing.

The C70G is a B class vehicle, which is roughly equivalent to the American midsize denomination (eg: Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata, Saab 9-5 itself, etc.).

A version in white called the C70GB was also present. The decals on the driver’s door reveal it’s the electric version of the C70G. However, there are no visible differences in design compared to the C70G.

According to BAIC, the C70G will roll off the production line as early as September of this year. The electric variant is expected to hit the market by the end of this year according to previous reports.
