MG Icon Concept reveals itself

SAIC-owned MG revealed sketches and renderings of the MG Icon a few days ago. Now Bitauto has pictures of the concept crossover live, getting ready for Beijing.

With some hints of MINI and Nissan Juke, the crossover’s biggest inspiration comes from an MG classic from the 1960s, the MG MGB.

A combination of retro and futuristic, the MG Icon is an interesting as a concept, but if this were to go into production it would have to be toned down.

As an MG lover and owner since the 1960′s, and current owner of an MGC GT, I feel strongly that the claims of the producers that this BMW mini-crossfire-juke-monkey mobile, is based on the MGB a cheap shot. You may have bought the name, but not the ethos.

Looks more like an updated Mini ACV 30 concept from the 90s. Striking yes, but with an extremely ugly rear end. Ugly rear ends seems to be a recurring theme with new MG designs (MG3 MG5, MG Icon concept… )

oh dear Andy Gordon, its a slight homage to the MGB GT, not a BMW Mini rip off, dont be stuck in the past and accept change and progress for crying out loud. I’d love to own an MGA one day, but it doesnt mean i want or expect all cars to be of that ilk or design ethos. these designs are actually a huge step forward on what really was expected from MG’s new owners. ive recently driven the new MG6 and it really was a suprising drive!
we all love MG’s of the past but let’s a least try and look forward!

I can see the MGB GT inspiration, but the rear wheel arches ruin the profile of the car and look like an after thought.
