BAIC C70 to becomes the ‘Gentlemens Treasure’ in Chinese

绅宝 (Shen Bao) is the new name of BAIC’s C70 series of cars according to a recent trademark registration by Beijing Auto. Shen refers to a gentlemen and Bao is treasure, or something that is precious, overall its a great name.

The C70 series of cars were unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show and are bound to be major hits when the 2.0T powered cars start to hit the production lines and dealerships towards the end of the year.

    That is a good name. Because 绅宝 was the name of SAAB in China when they has not enter Chinese market officially.

    I know that the company is called BAIC in English, but is the marque which the C70 will come under BAIC or Beijing in English?

    From what I was told on my last visit, it will just be ‘Beijing C70′ in English. They are very handsome cars. I had my doubts to begin with about the feasibility of the project, but now I am convinced they are set to win strong market share.

    Top Gear will have a field day with this one. ‘Gentleman’s treasure’. I think the innuendo is lost on the Chinese market though…

    That’s an interesting name they’ve chosen, given that “宝” is also the word used to describe a special ingredient in a certain Chinese dish.

    Hint: for the English-speaking readers, another translation for bao is “jewel(s)”.
