Three people are dead after a Nissan GT-R sports car collided with a BYD e6 electric taxi and proceeded to burst into flames. Shenzhen police have said that the driver of the Nissan GT-R was heavily intoxicated and possibly drag racing. Witnesses claim that the Nissan GT-R was traveling in excess of 200km/h at the time of the accident.
Early reports claim that the occupants of the GT-R were only slightly injured but the high speed impact into the e6 triggered spontaneous combustion of the electric vehicle and the death of all three of its occupants. It is not clear at this time whether the impact was the cause of their death or the subsequent fire. Though much remains to be answered, as the investigation is not yet complete, the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of BYD’s vehicles among the public.

Tragedy when people dies in trafic,it happens every minute, but do anyone know if they did not manage to leave the taxi when it did catch fire?
It looks like a minor and very low speed crash in the picture. Also it does not seem like the full 60kWh battery have been burning.
If hit by speed 200 car, it will be nothing at all look like this, I have seen it! No matter what model, almost all will die in the speed 200 if they try to run in to a stand still car.
Your agenda is very clear. You want people to buy South Korean cars rather than Chinese ones.
Lively debate and discussion is great but you postings on this particular story are beyond despicable.

They couldn’t. The batteries exploded at the moment of collision.

Because it’s a GT-R. The BYD E6′s rear end disappeared.

Where did I ever say you should buy a Korean car? The only Korean thing I mentioned is the battery, which is much safer than BYD’s battery(as proven by the recent Volt crash which looks much more violent than the E6 crash) and is the choice of GM, Ford, BMW, and Renault EVs.
You should watch more movies. All cars explode on impact on tv. Not just electric.
Wrong. It was found to be leaking coolant. The safety of the volt comes from gm designs of the chassis which prevents intrusion into the battery pack.
Lg claims the battery is safe and no flammable but NHTSA tests have shown that it leaks flammable vapor. You will see that the NHTSA later closed the matter because GM yet again implemented another fix to prevent further punctures.
