JAC have really got their engines running in the past few years, despite the company coming to the self developed car market relatively late when compared to regional rivals Chery and Geely. JAC started its auto business with the Rei Feng MPV and later entered passenger car production after creating a near monopoly on the Chinese MPV market, its design themes have developed rapidly and are improving all the time whilst competitors rely on ‘inspired’ designs.
The original Eagle was based on the last generation Hyundai Sante-Fe which JAC acquired via their MPV JV with Hyundai, the body on frame model has proven to be successful, the new model is a completely new structure developed from the ground up, along with a new 2.0T engine. The new 2.0T is capable of pushing out 177bhp according to reports, torque figures haven’t yet been revealed.
Pricing could be from 100,000RMB rising to the high ends of 150,000RMB for the 2.0T model when it launches in December, but this model will probably find more buyers in South America than China where JAC has already established a solid foothold in the market.
