Audi, BMW and Mercedes are battling it out for the Chinese consumer, Audi did appear to get way ahead thanks to their early market entry but BMW are fighting back strong. In the past few months BMW seems to have re-energized its market plans for China with the introduction of the new 3-Series in short wheel base and long wheelbase form, the locally made X1 and the imported 1-Series.
Next up appears to be a GT version of the 3-series. The 5-Series GT has been on sale in China for nearly two years where it has picked up a few sales but now the hump back is moving down the line to the 3-Series, a 3-Series GT has been spotted on Chinese roads and may indicate a potential launch in the PRC in the not so distant future, however the question still remains: Will this be made in China, or merely imported into China? Only time will tell.

It really makes no difference to me where it’s made – the 5 series GT is just FUGLY and so is this thing.
The 3-series might look a little better without the bulk attached to it.
