The UK automotive media have mostly loved the MG6 but consumers didn’t due to the lack of a diesel. That’s changed, MG now have a oil burning engine available for the MG6 with a 1.8 unit that pushes out 148bhp, for UK’ers that translates into just over 53mpg and 139g of Co2. The gasoline MG6 was a tough sell in the UK with just ‘dozens’ being sold every month, but with a diesel on offer and sterling reviews like this from Auto Car, it seems there will be no trouble in selling a lot more.
Yesterday Auto Car published this review, but for some unusual reason it has been pulled. Here’s a snippet of what the original review had in store:
Now it’s here, and it’s good. Generous power is provided by an all-new UK-designed 1.85-litre, four-pot diseasel that is powerful, refined and has a wide torque spread. Peak power of 148bhp chimes in at 4000rpm, while peak torque begins at a relaxed 1800rpm, and is maintained into the 3000s. Combined fuel consumption of 53.5 mpg and CO2 output of 139g/km are competitive without being best in class: MG reckons further improvements are coming.

Very impressive, too bad we will never see this in the US. Perhaps it will come to China in 2 or 3 years.
The diesel will help. A modern automatic transmission would also make the 6 more attractive. However, the expansion of the dealer network will be critical to their success. Then, they can begin the serious marketing campaign that the car deserves.
The MG5 review on Autocar website is your article? It is very good! Maybe SAIC is not a very good choice for me because of the poor powertrain and chassis.
chassis is very good, powertrain is…..
Does anybody know when the DCT transmission will be available with the new diesel in the MG6?
Now that would be an interesting proposition!
Good point, I have no news of a derv DCT, although it would really make for an interesting product!
