Top Selling Brands in China in October, Japanese Brands Drop Like Lead Rocks

For the majority of this year the top selling brands have been VW, followed by Nissan. In the wake of the Anti-Japan protests in China, Nissan has dropped from the top spot like a lead balloon.

  2. Hyundai – 63,946
  3. Chevrolet – 58,917
  4. Buick – 54,284
  5. Ford – 43,42
  6. Chery – 33,652
  7. Kia – 33,396
  8. BYD – 32,897
  9. Chang’an – 24,040
  10. Skoda – 24,018

Nissan came in at 11th with 22,875 cars sold which was a drop of 41% in year on year comparison and has forced the company to cut its China sales target by 14% to 1.175 million vehicles in China. Toyota was ranked 16th, behind Geely’s Emgrand brand, with 17,143 units sold and Honda sold 16,173 units making it 19th and behind Great Wall.

    I don’t hear much about the effects on the Chinese economy itself, now the Chinese are not buying any Japanese car. I mean the joint-ventures (the unemployment risk for the workforces, the revenues for the Chinese partner, etc) and the sub-contractors, the dealers etc etc. When the Chinese don’t stop their buyers-strike this must hurt?!
