Geely’s Emgrand Range to Receive EV8 and EX8 in 2013

Geely’s Emgrand brand did seem like an odd decision in early 2011 when the brand was first dreamed up by company executives, how could Geely transform itself from a low cost manufacturer to a high end one? The answer was to develop a new mid range brand, its easier to come in at a high price level and go cheaper rather than start cheap and go high, the EC7 sedan was the first car, the EC7-RV hatchback was second, the mid size EC8 sedan followed it up. Sales have been better than expected, the Emgrand EC7 sold 113,971 models so far this year with over 16,000 units in October alone, the larger EC8 held its own with113,971 cars sold this year.

Next up for Emgrand is the addition of a large SUV, the EX8 and also a business orientated MPV, the EV8. The EX8 reportedly has a wheelbase of 2800mm and measures in at 4839×1880×1715mm (LxWxH) making a fairly large vehicle. Two engines will be on offer in both car models, a 2.4L gasoline and also a 2.0 diesel mated to 7 speed dual clutch gearboxes.  The addition of a diesel engine indicates that exports could be on the table, owing to Chinese consumers general dislike of diesel engines.
