Chinese media are eagerly reporting on a new A-segment car that will sit between the VW Lavida and the current Passat. News on the new vehicle is thin on the ground, apparently the new model will be considered a ‘mini Passat CC’ and will be a hatchback rather than a sedan, possibly in the fastback sedan style.

The new model has been codenamed A-Plus within Shanghai-VW, the model will be the same size as the VW Sagitar sedan (VW Jetta) which is currently made by FAW-VW, except slightly wider according to early reports. Both joint ventures are eager to have similar models, FAW-VW is expected to introduce a new SUV in the near future to go alongside Shanghai-VW’s extremely popular Tiguan SUV.
