Wang Chuan Fu Launches BYD E6 Taxi Fleet in Colombia

BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu making speechBYD’s Chairman and one of China’s richest men personally launched a taxi fleet of BYD E6 models in the country’s capital of Bogota last week. The new fleet is the first all electric taxi fleet in South America and comes as part of Colombia’s plan to become a greener country, the Colombian government has lowered import taxes on pure electric cars to zero percent as part of a trial project to increase electric car use in the country.

49 BYD E6′s have already been signed over to the fleet operator and will be placed into operation in the first quarter of 2013, Bogotá’s
Technology, Science and Innovation Administration Bureau will also receive several vehicles to further evaluate the technology.

Ms. Stella Li BYD  Senior Vice President commented, “BYD is very impressed with the leadership in Colombia and their  vision to be a part of the new clean technology era with electrified public transportation. We hope to triple our growth and presence in Colombia by next year.”
