Selling two or more generation of cars has become the ultimate trick in the Chinese car sales handbook. VW sold a few dozen different Passat’s alongside each other, and still does, Mazda has multiple 6′s and Hyundai offer up three different Elantra’s and Buick has three Excelle’s. Now Hyundai are planning to keep the first generation around a little bit longer in the Chinese market to satisfy those that want a low cost, easy rolling Hyundai SUV in their garage.
Despite the new IX35/Tucson already being on the market, Beijing-Hyundai plan to keep the old model on the market for just a little longer according to these spy pics that show an upgraded front grill with plenty of chrome around the center. The rear end has also been given a slight tip and tuck but the interior remains largely unchanged, a new series of alloys are also available. Pricing is expected to be relatively low and could potentially crossover with the ix35 at certain points. A March or April launch is expected, so keep your eyes peeled for the chrome nose job.
