China Discovers It Has A Fake London Bridge

fakelondonbridgeLast year I posted some photos of the faux London Tower Bridge a few kilometers north of my old apartment in Suzhou, I mistakenly called it the London Bridge but never mind, my knowledge of all things London begins and ends with Heathrow Airport. The Daily Mail liked the story so much they ran it themselves, but never give me credit, thanks Daily Mail.

Youku.com, the video sharing site, has a front page story on the London Bridge after a Netizen paid a visit with a video camera. I should have done that. Apparently construction of the bridge was circa 100 million RMB, which seems like a lot of  bridge for not a lot of money, not that corners are ever cut in China.

Most of the commenters on the video are in awe of China’s ability to build near exact replicas of foreign buildings, Wuxi for example has the US Capitol Building, apparently China has six of them in total.

Tower Bridge, not London Tower. The latter was where they locked up people who misnamed UK landmarks, among other heinous crimes.
