MG6 Gains Six Speed Dual Clutch and Electronic Brake

The MG6 has been selling quite well in the Chinese market, although it is priced on par with products from international manufaturers. The MG6′s biggest draw backs were the ancient 5 speed automatic gearbox and the perculiar hand brake that seemed to pop out at a strange angle. Both are gone for 2013 – a six speed dual clutch gearbox is on its way as well as a discreet electronic hand brake that gives plenty of extra space.

Engines for China will likely stay the same, 1.8L naturally aspirated and a 1.8T for China, although the UK will be receiving a diesel engine soon. Both seem out of date when compared to more modern options so perhaps SAIC will move to introduce a smaller more powerful engine in the near future. UK buyers might be able to find these options in the 2013/14 models soon.

MG6 is certainly getting better and better. New DCT semi-auto transmission will be a huge boost. Can’t wait to read the road tests!

I’d like to see an MG6 estate model, diesel with DCT, perfect…

Me too, but I think we will see a Roewe MPV/MG5 Wagon before anything else.
