How many small cars does Volkswagen need for the Chinese market? The German auto maker is readying another small hatchback for the Chinese market along with its partner Shanghai Volkswagen. SH-VW already produce the Lavida sedan, which sold nearly 35,000 units last month, and are plann
ing to add a hatchback under the Lang Xing name (the sedan is the Lang Yi). The Lang Xing name was aired via a patent filing that the Chinese automotive media uncovered relatively quickly, an English name hasn’t yet been revealed but that will be a surprise for the Shanghai Auto Show.
The new Lang Xing will be priced lower than the Golf which is made by FAW-VW and could potentially undercut the Golf’s sales. Engine power will also follow the sedan version of the Lavida with 1.6L and 1.4TSI engines being made available.
