MG5 Turbo Produces 95kw, will be priced from 125,000RMB

The much needed MG5 Turbo will hit the market soon according to recent media reports, the Shanghai Auto Show is being cited as the official launch date on April 19th this year. The 1.5T engine was developed in partnership between SAIC and GM as part of a 2010 deal which saw the two work together to develop 1.0L to 1.5L engines which would included direct injection and turbo engines which will also make it into Baojun models.

The turbo version boosts power from 80kw in the naturally aspirated version to 95kw which boost top speed from 180km per hour to 200km per hour, on paper the turbo version is on par with VW’s own 1.4TSI in the popular Golf model that retails from 140,00RMB, the MG5 will start from just 125,000RMB for the base model manual.

    Good news! If this would be made available with the new DCT transmission there’d be a real danger of the MG5 becoming highly desireable!
