Volkswagen’s DSG headache in the Chinese market has been building for a number of months, VW received a beating at the annual March 15th Consumer Rights Day televised Gala where affected Volkswagen car owners took to the stage to complain about their DSG gearboxes.
Owners complained that the DSG gearbox, developed by BorgWarner, suffer from a break in power or strong vibrations running through the gearbox when changing through the second gear. The Chinese Quality Watchdog have pressured VW into carrying out a recall which is expected to happy from April 2nd 2013 and will see an expected 380,000 cars pass through Shanghai-VW and FAW-VW dealerships for repair.
The DSG issues are not just related to domestically made vehicles with imports also being affected. 7,139 imported Scirroco 1.4TSI, Golf Wagon, Cross Golf models made between December 2008 and September 2011 are being recalled.
FAW-VW made vehicles produced between May 2009 and January 2012 along with vehicles made up until February 2013 including the new Bora 1.4T, Golf 1.4T, Golf 1.6L, Sagitar 1.4T, Magotan 1.4T, CC 1.8T, New Sagitar 1.4T, New Magotan 1.4T, New Magotan 1.8T, as well as imported Audi A3 1.8T models totaling 245,999 vehicles are being recalled.
Shanghai-VW vehicles being recalled include the Touran 1.4T, Skoda Octavia, Lavida 1.4T, Superb 1.4T and New Passat 1.4T and New Passat 1.8T, totaling 131,043 vehicles.
