Volkswagen’s iBeetle Comes to China, Disappoints

Share Our Knowledge With Your Friends, Contacts And Co-Workers

Volkswagen came to the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show with the introduction of an iBeetle which it partnered with Apple to create, hence the i-Name. Does that mean the new Beetle gains super connectivity and funky interfaces? No – it is simply the addition of an iPhone connector where you can plug in your iPod Touch or iPhone, the same could be achieved with Bluetooth and A2DP without the marketing hoo-hah – but then that doesn’t sell many cars in an iPhone obsessed nation like China.

The Beetle is imported into China with a myriad of engine configurations including 1.2TSI, 1.4TSI, 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI, we believe that it eventually it will see Chinese domestic production with FAW-VW.

The feather duster is not included:

The Beetle in fact will not ever be produced by FAW-VW, VW import sales are rising quicker than the J.V. cars, as these are seen as ‘premium’ models, and don’t have to appeal to the mass-market like the cheaper J.V models.
