Chery are working hard to reverse their fortunes which have left them without any new metal under the Chery brand whilst all their attention were diverted to two failed brands; Riich and Reely, both of which have since been terminated – but might be coming back.
The Tiggo5 has already been aired at the Shanghai Auto Show where it was known as the Alpha5 concept, it was well received and has translated well into this handsome new vehicle shown in these spy photos, we can expect official pictures next month when the 5 launches.
Pricing is expected to be from 100,000RMB and rising with engine offerings including a 2.0L DVVT unit with 5 speed manual gearboxes and seven speed CVT gearboxes, with a possible 1.6TCI engine launching in early 2014 along with a 1.4TGDI engine. Other electronics installed on the 5 include keyless start, Chery’s own iAuto interface system as well as ESP and other safety options.
Along with the Arizzo 7, the Tiggo 5 is aiming to restart Chery. A lack of fresh cars within the Chery dealership has lead consumers to look elsewhere for cars, specifically towards Chery’s biggest rivals at Geely and JAC both of whom have excelled with their own cars in the past 24 months whilst Chery has gone stale.
