If you make a compact angular SUV with the spare tire mounted on the trunk much like Ford’s own Ecosport, does it make an Ecosport clone? This is the question that we have to ask when we saw Beijing’s EC20 SUV over on auto.163.com, the new compact SUV was shown in rendered form just over two months ago here on the pages of China Car Times, but it seems the rear mounted wheel has been ditched to give the new SC20 some credibility and shield off the cries of ‘Clone!’
This new SC20 is supposedly built on top of the E-series of vehicle which itself is a Mitsubishi Colt which must give at least some promise of semi decent handling when compared to its local rivals. Measuring in at 4.3m long and 1.75m wide the SC20 is smaller than the market’s current hot SUV’s like the Haval H6 and Chery Tiggo3. Power will come from the same units as the E-Series vehicles, meaning 1.3L and 1.5L engines with 5 speed manual and 4 speed autos on tap, and pricing potentially from 60,000RMB and rising.
