There is no lack of imagination at Sichuan Yema, the company yesterday showed off its brand new F18 SUV which merges styles from multiple different vehicles and today it aired its brand new M72 hybrid sports coupe.
Will Elon Musk, the Tesla CEO, be knocking on Yema’s door anytime soon? We don’t think so. We think this model is probably based on the Matra M72 which has been passed around the China auto industry like an STD over the past few years. The Matra was initially going to be put into production by the UK’s MG-Rover but the two companies failed to come to a business deal before both companies shuttered, somehow the IP ended up in Sichuan Yema’s hands where they built a few different cars using CNG/LPG and gasoline engines, rumors of electric versions are also circulating. Power plants for this generation of car are still unknown, but judging from the gearbox it’s probably gas powered rather than electric.
Now Yema have never actually put into production but they are possibly thinking about it in the near future according to the press release from them earlier today. Yema have given the M72 a slight update on the exterior and somehow managed to squeeze a Buick Lacrosse inspired dashboard into the diminutive car, let’s not forget the rear lights look to have been borrowed from a late generation Mazda3 from Chang’an-Mazda.
