Foton are a silent player in the Chinese automotive and commercial vehicle market, the company’s products are widely seen plowing Chinese highways taking finished and unfinished goods from factory to factory or factory to port, as well as having their coach range taking tourists all over the world.

The company already boasts 9 overseas facilities where Foton produce is being put together from knock down kits sent from Chinese factories, but in the future the company is aiming to expand to 30 factories including facilities in Europe and on the American continent. For Foton, Thailand, Mexico and Turkey as well as 6 other countries are reportedly at an advanced stage of discussion or factories are in the process of being built and will serve the local area both in their respective domestic markets or for export in the region.

In 2010 Foton sold just 32,000 units overseas which accounted for 4.7% of all sales which will be expanded to 50,000 units this year, by 2015 Foton aims to expand to 100,000 sales. Foton hopes to achieve this by expanding their current overseas dealership network of 246 dealers covering over 90 nations.

Under Foton’s 2020 strategy that the company released in 2010 the company hopes to achieve global sales (both in China and internationally) of 3 million units with factories in developing markets driving sales.
