Roewe 1.8 550 DVVT on the market soon

The Roewe 550 1.8 Turbo model has seen some good sales since its launch, not as good as the Honda Civic, but averaging 2000 units per month is quite good for an unknown Chinese brand with a product that costs over 120,000rmb. The Roewe 5501.8 DVVT, or basically, the Roewe 550 1.8 without turbo assistance, is the next model of the Roewe 550 to hit the market.

From what we hear, the DVVT engine ‘has increased in ability‘ by 10%, but at the same time, it uses 5% more gas than its turbo assisted brother. We have no idea what increased in ability’ means, but we’re sure its good. The Roewe 550 1.8 naturally aspirated model will hit the market soon, priced at between 120,000 and 140,000rmb. If the 1.8 is half as fun as the 1.8T model, then the 550 may find itself a home in the China Car Times garage very quickly.

Roewe 750 1.8T Manual box to go on the market

MG7 tried to test the market with a 1.8T Manual, and they didnt do overly well, but Roewe are going to give the market segment a shot with their latest model, the 750 1.8T manual.

Roewe could be aiming the manual box version to fleet buyers who dont really require the added expense of an autobox, and autobox servicing but do require a car that makes them look good.

The 1.8T manual is reportedly very economical, with it using 6.0l per 100km of travel, and performance wise the manual is expected to reach 205kph.

Roewe 550 Sports. They were serious

China Car Times has an on going love affair with the Roewe 550, a Chinese car to beat them all, or at least have a jolly good try, but the latest ’sports version’ is a true sight for sore eyes. We thought the spy pictures we posted a few weeks ago were a Roewe 550 owners own personal additions, but it seems that Roewe may actually intend on launching the 550 ‘Sports’

Have Roewe designers been watching Tokyo Drift recently?

Roewe SUV on the market Q1 next year

Roewe are still reportedly out testing their Roewe branded SUV, which is more than likely to be a reskinned Ssangyong Kyron from SAICs Korean sub-brand, Ssangyong.

According to Internet Media Reports, SAIC are reportedly working hard to bring the Kyron into the Roewe design styling that will be used on the Roewe 550, SAIC are improving the luxury levels, as well as the looks of the Korean designed SUV. The Kyron will be reportedly produced in China within the first half of 2009, and could well be triple branded as MG, Roewe, and Ssangyong, although that seems a little extreme even by Chinese standards. Chances are, the Kyron will be a Roewe/Ssangyong only model and probably wont see MG use.

Roewe 750i

Roewe have launched a new version of their reasonably popular 750 sedan, this time the model is named ‘i’. The 750i is a limited edition model priced at 258,800rmb to celebrate the snookers masters event, furthermore Roewe are only making 300 of the 750i’s making them super limited!

The 750i has the letter M on the C-pillar, M standing for ‘Master’, of course. Further editions to the 750i include the ‘Master’ being stitched into the leather of the seats.

In addition, Roewe will also give away pens that are used by the snooker world masters themselves to each lucky buyer. For the Masters promotion, Roewe will also collect and deliver your car for each service within a 50km radius, two yearly full valets are included within the first year of ownership.

Roewe 550 Review

red-roewe3.jpgOn a recent visit to the UK, I had the chance to meet up with my two great uncles. My Great Uncles are twin brothers, they have never married, but have lived together all their lives, and they pride themselves on the fact that they’ve never driven any ‘foreign muck’. As far back as I can remember, my two great uncles have driven everything from BMC (British Motor Company) vehicles to the latest Rovers, and everything else in between, just as long as it was a British brand, made in Britain, and came in some sort of mustard, brown, or beige color. Some might say, they’ve spent their life driving class, notable automotive purchases by them would be include a TR7, a Montego Clubman, a Maestro, and a Rover 45. My maternal Grandfather has a Rover 75 Tourer. A long story short, the older members of my family love their Rovers. One of my uncles mentioned something about those ‘Chinese made Rovers’ obviously he meant the MG range which was bought up NAC two years back, and the Roewe brand which NAC arch rivals SAIC started, and then took over MG anyway.

Roewe 550 Sports, spotted again, no improvements on style

The Roewe 550 was declared to by China Car Times to be the most beautiful Chinese car ever made, then Roewe went and made the Roewe 550 sports edition:

Whilst we’re not entirely sure if the above pictures are official sports versions of the Roewe 550, or are merely a 550 owners own additions, we have to say the bodykit is truly awful. We hope the MG version is going to be sporty, but without the Tokyo Drift style bodykits.

Well, what do you think of the ’sports version’ styling of the Roewe 550?

After the Roewe 550, whats next?

In a recent interview with The Daily Economic News, SAIC’s General Manager, Wang Shao Qiu, revealed that SAIC will be entering the A-segment of the market with the Roewe brand, which echoes what MG’s Yang Jun Hu said in a previous interview.

Wang Shao Qiu went onto say that the 2.5 V6 Roewe 750 sold 16,000 vehicles since going on the market, and a waiting list of 7000 people waiting for the recently launched Roewe 550 1.8Turbo model. Mr Wang also revealed further plans for a naturally aspirated 1.8 550.

Mr. Wang also speculated that Roewe will launch either a Roewe 350, or a 250 depending on the market requirements and what Roewe customers require in a car.
