Roewe 350 - launches next year - pics!

When Roewe first came to be, the first car that rolled off the line was the gentry like Roewe 750 with a big 2.5 V6 engine, over a short time Chinese consumers have quickly adapted to high oil prices and are quickly shying away from gigantic power plants that suck their purses dry to smaller turbo assisted engines that pack the punch of a 6 cylinder engine but with the economy of a 4 pot. Roewe are responding well to market conditions with the introduction of 1.8T, and future 1.5 …

Roewe 150 spy shots made it onto the internet early this morning, complete with an ‘artists rendering’ of what the finished product may look like. Previous ’spy shots’ of a Roewe 250 showed a Fiat Punto with some wires hanging out from under the hood, although that was likely to have been a test mule for an engine rather than a ‘cloned car’.
The Roewe 150, or possibly 250, will be Roewe’s first small car, an actual launch date has yet to be announced, but it could be unveiled at an …

News was released earlier today stating that the Roewe N1 will use a DSG gearbox once it is launched later this year. The DSG gearbox will be developed by BorgWarner in partnership with SAIC. As the Roewe 550 implemented the ‘digital system’ the N1 will implement ‘internet and informaton revolution’, as the 550 interior was rather splendid, its expected that the N1 will improve on the existing dash system.
The Roewe 550 Hatchback was also seen out testing recently, despite lacking the pizzaz that the MG6 had at the Auto Show, …

The Roewe N1 concept car was unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show this week, it drew in the crowds to the rather large SAIC stand, but it was greatly out done by the fantastic MG6.
You see, the W2 concept car (which later became the Roewe 550) was a new begining, but an extension of Rover (and therefore British) motoring heritage. The design was a radical change from the Rovers of the MG-R age, and showed a new direction, the MG6 continues with that new direction and will give MG …

The 550R is Roewe’s second shot at producing a sports sedan out of the Roewe 550. The previous incarnation was a failure, it was neither sporty, nor cool. The 550R at least improves on the original silver blob with a little bit more style, although the lower black skirting is superfluous to the overall design.
Now the question is, is this 550 actually named 550RS or 550R5?

The latest Roewe concept from SAIC design looks rather like the mule that CCT reader Dylan spotted a while back testing in Australia:
Shame the models pants are rather vile.

The Shanghai Auto Show is just about to start, but it is going to be a special one for MG, as it is the 85th birthday for one of Britains (now Chinas) oldest brand.
MG-Roewe are expected to throw a proper birthday bash for the old girl, and will launch the MG6 at the show, as well as the Roewe 550 hatchback and possibly even in MG guise as well.
The below 550 hatch with its sleek smoothed out trunk does resemble the MG6 pictures posted earlier today, so it does seem …

We’ve been wondering just what exactly SAIC had in store for the Rover 25 platform, they received it along with the Rover 75 platform (which they subsequently developed into the Roewe 750) but the Rover 25 was left neglected for a few years, until now:
The Roewe 250 is radically different from the Rover 25, leading itself to more of a Fiat Punto style design, but will of course have that hint of British elegance about it that other mini car producers just fail to invoke in their designs.
Engines are …

The Roewe N1 concept will be launched next week at the Shanghai Auto Show:
The N1 is rather similar to the W2 concept, that went on to become the Roewe 550. The N1 concept will be unveiled next week, but is the N1 concept the recently spotted test mule in Australia?
Also, could this N1 be the brother of the recently posted MG6?

Further details on the Roewe 850 have emerged, including pictures which solidify the rumors that the 850 is essentially a reworked Ssangyong Chairman:
The front and rear end of the ‘Roewe 85′ have been ‘Roewe-ized’ to bring into the Roewe design fold. Ssangyong Chairmans are usually used as limos in China complete with a driver, and its expected that the 835 is set to appeal to the same market, except the domestically built Roewe R85 will cost a lot less than the Korean built and imported Chairman. The Chairman measures (LxWxH) …

Last week China Car Times was sent these interesting photos of a Roewe 550 testing in Australia, Alice Springs to be exact.
Now you maybe wondering why the Roewe 550 would still be under testing, seeing as it’s already on sale in China. We shared the photos with MGUK.org to find out what they think. They seem to think that all of the panels on the ‘550′ are slightly bigger than the production model which may indicate that the ‘550′ may not be a ‘550′ but perhaps something further up …

Late yesterday, SAIC issued a strong denial of Ssangyong claims of theft by SAIC, SAIC claim that it was a technology transfer, but Ssangyong obviously claims otherwise.
Xinhua gives us the lowdown:
SHANGHAI, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) — The Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. (SAIC) Thursday dismissed allegations that it had stolen technology from its Republic of Korea (ROK) auto-making affiliate as “totally baseless”, claiming the “technology exchange” was a normal commercial activity.
”The accusation is totally baseless,” said Zhu Xiangjun, SAIC spokesman. “The technology exchange between SAIC and the ROK’s Ssangyong Motor Company …

SAIC’s Roewe have been working hard to complete a super secret super luxury sedan before Shanghai’s April show.
Technically, SAIC already do produce a limo in the guise of the MG7 2.5 V6, which is 100mm longer than the standard MG7 1.8T. Although that particular model has not be a sales success for MG.
The powerplant in the Roewe limo to the left is currently unknown, but we’re guessing that the regular 2.5 V6 lump that Roewe currently own wont be powerful enough to move the gigantic car along the flat …

SAIC pulled out all of the stops for the Roewe 550, they employed their UK design team, and utilized their finest engineering talent to make a car that looks good, performs well, is extremely safe, and also cheap to buy.

The Roewe 550 has sold around 2500 units per month since its launch  five months ago. The Roewe 550 is based off the Rover 75 platform that SAIC acquired from the bankrupt British car maker Rover in 2005. SAIC have built two cars off the platform, the …

SAIC’s design team have been busy building a Roewe brand that they can push to the world, first it started with the Roewe 750 2.5V6 (which looks just as elegant as ever) and then the 750 1.8T, the stunning Roewe 550, and now a rebranded Ssangyong Kyron SUV, which is expected to be the next big Roewe product.

We dont know why, but it seems SAIC cant keep a lid on any of its future secret cars, the whole world knew about the Roewe 550 a whole year before it …

The Roewe 550 1.8 (non turbo model) manual gear box edition is set to be priced at a highly affordable 126,800rmb to 135,800rmb, which easily makes it the most highly desirable car in its segment, with its nearest competition being the Ford Focus (110,00rmb for the manual model) and the Citroen C4-Quattre (108,000rmb for 1.6 manual), despite being slightly more expensive, we think consumers may actually plump for the Roewe 550 as its far more luxurious on the inside than either of its two competitors.
The 1.8 DVVT engine is rather …

Various websites have been pushing around pictures of a future Roewe 550 hatchback, but badged up as an MG model. China Car Times, rather than publish the images straight away, we actually did a bit of research! By contacting various insiders, and those more likely in the know, we have concluded that the MG hatch pictures are not the ones that our MG insider knows of, but they did say there was a similar vehicle in planning stage.
The pictures first came to light in the Chinese auto magazine, Qi Che …
