SAIC pulled out all of the stops for the Roewe 550, they employed their UK design team, and utilized their finest engineering talent to make a car that looks good, performs well, is extremely safe, and also cheap to buy.
SAIC’s design team have been busy building a Roewe brand that they can push to the world, first it started with the Roewe 750 2.5V6 (which looks just as elegant as ever) and then the 750 1.8T, the stunning Roewe 550, and now a rebranded Ssangyong Kyron SUV, which is expected to be the next big Roewe product.
Various websites have been pushing around pictures of a future Roewe 550 hatchback, but badged up as an MG model. China Car Times, rather than publish the images straight away, we actually did a bit of research! By contacting various insiders, and those more likely in the know, we have concluded that the MG hatch pictures are not the ones that our MG…Read More →
What was going through SAIC executives mind when they came up for the plans to show off ‘modified’ Roewe 550′s at the Guangzhou Auto Show this week? It looks like SAIC ram-raided Halfords over the weekend and picked up just about every tacky after market accessory they could! At least they didnt do much to alter the fantastic exterior, or hopefully dampen…Read More →
The Roewe 550 1.8 Turbo model has seen some good sales since its launch, not as good as the Honda Civic, but averaging 2000 units per month is quite good for an unknown Chinese brand with a product that costs over 120,000rmb. The Roewe 5501.8 DVVT, or basically, the Roewe 550 1.8 without turbo assistance, is the next model of the Roewe 550 to hit the…Read More →

The Roewe 550 has been a pretty important car for the Chinese automobile industry in 2008. Its by far one of the best designed (and possibly engineered) cars to come out of China to date, but we have to ask – why is everyone talking about its key?
Well, it isnt actually a key of sorts. Its like the keyfobs that come with most modern Nissans (and…Read More →
China Car Times once said the Roewe 550 was the most beautiful Chinese car to date, however, since these photos came to light of a ‘sports’ 550, we retract our statement. The 550 Sports is not an improvement on exterior aesthetics at all!
China Car Times is hearing rumors that the recently launched Roewe 550 will under go some sports treatment and be re-badged as the MG6. MG and Roewe appear to continue the relationship that MG and Rover once had – Rover making classy cars, whilst MG made sports versions. The Roewe 550 is expected to go on the market around June/July…Read More →
Surely CCT readers will understand by now, that the Roewe 550 is one of China Car Times favorite new cars of late. We hear critisisms of the 550 such as ‘the chrome front is ugly‘, the ‘rear end is ugly‘ what a bunch of moaners! The 550 is expected to launch at the Beijing Auto Show making it just over a year since the Roewe 750 2.5…Read More →
MG-Rover fell from automotive grace when its life was ultimately extinguished in 2005, NAC and SAIC picked up the pieces, NAC took Longbridge and the MG brand, SAIC took the rights to the 25, and 75 models. SAIC takes the Rover 75 and makes the rather nice Roewe 750, only to buy the whole of NAC (and MG) later anyway. SAIC officials let loose their…Read More →
In the MG-Rover fan circles, it was commonly felt that the Longbridge factory had been left to return to nature by its Chinese owners, but it seems that they have had plans for it all along. Hopefully now that SAIC are in charge of MG, they will be able to give more direction and turn out the Roewe 550 as an MG5 from the lines of Longbridge!

The Roewe 750 1.8t is going to on the market this March according to our sources, prices are said to be less than 200,000rmb for the luxury and ‘administration’ edition. We have no idea what an admin model is but looking over the specs, it seems it is the higher model.
Autoweek.nl are saying that Roewe will be hitting the Netherlands pretty soon, but under the guise of the Ssangyong brand.
SsangYong gaat in de komende jaren het programma flink uitbreiden. Naast SUV’s en MPV’s komen normale personenauto’s in de prijslijst. Die rijden in…Read More →
