ROLL UP! ROLL UP! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Chinese Auto News In Brief!

Chinese Auto Makers not ready to take on the world says a GM executive, probably correct but ol’ cynical China Car Times thinks he’s circling the wagons in an attempt to stop people buying cheap Chinese brands and pushing GM into the financial gutter.

But in other news:

GM’s Buick sales going through the roof, thanks to Chinese customers buying lots and lots and lots of Buicks in 2006. Funny how most of the low end Buick’s look a lot like old Vauxhall/Opel models - is China Car Times alone in this thinking method?

Chinese Cars are not quite as good as the Americans, Europeans or the Japanese autos, in this Zhong Xing SUV review.

China to nurture Global Competition, by pushing 50 state owned companies, including auto companies into becoming global leaders in their fields.

Chinese Cars Shine at Bologna - Gonow’s Board Chairman was quoted as saying “We want to further expand into the overseas markets, by first entering the Italian market, and then branching into the rest of Europe. After that, we’ll target North America.” Is he trying to rerun Operation Baytown?
Chinese cars to enter Brazil in 2008 - But will they run on ethanol?

Zhongxing Automobiles to export their trucks to the USA?

It certainly seems so, although we often hear that xxx company is planning to export to the USA or Europe, the actual execution of the exportation plan rarely goes through, rarely. China Car Times can only think of Brilliance off the top our heads that have actually exported to the West, oh, and Landwind. I guess you could count SAIC and Nanjing Auto group in there as well, seeing as they bought their way into England via Rover/MG. Zhongxing automobile company, based in Hebei central China have signed a deal with American company ChamCo to help Zhongxing build a sales, and after sales network in the United States, they are currently preparing for sales of upto 150,000 units before 2010 in the American market alone! Obviously Zhong Xing knows how to set the bar, even the modest Geely is only aiming for 100,000 cars by the year 2010.
