2010 Sales Goals for Chinese manufacturers all up, despite tax being up too

2009 was a brilliant year for Chinese car manufacturers, with every month setting yet another record from January’s low sales, to Decembers record high sales. Early in the year the Chinese government stepped in to cut tax on sub 1.6L cars to 5%, whilst this boosted car sales in a massive way, the government raised sales tax to 7.5% for 2010 to cool down the market whilst continuing with steady growth at the same time.

FAW-Toyota, the JV between First Automobile Works and Toyota, are planning to recall a staggering 75552 RAV4 SUV models which were only recently launched in China due to the international accelerator problems that have affected the company worldwide.
The factory responsible for producing the RAV4, Tianjin FAW-Toyota, have already suspended production of the vehicle until the problem can be solved. All previously built models are going to be recalled and repaired for free. FAW-Toyota are already contacting affected owners via telephone, text message and post.

Ford Edge to be imported or built in China?

A Ford Edge SUV has been spotted out testing in China, sparking rumors of an imminent launch of the SUV in China.
Ford China are currently lacking an SUV option since they ended the import of the American built Ford Escape (Maverick in China), persistant rumors of the Ford Kuga launching in China have been spreading around for quite some time, however nothing has yet come to pass.

During the start of the world economic turn down a year ago, the Chinese government stepped in and began a program of subsidies that would introduce the automobile to rural buyers and give the beleaguered Chinese car industry a much needed boost. The government encouraged small car makers to sell small displacement MPV’s and other versatile vehicles in a bid to encourage sales and also improve the environment by taking Soviet era tractors off the road.

Brilliance BS4 Facelift spotted out testing

A Brilliance BS4 with an updated nose has been spotted out testing in China, the new front end is reportedly a new grill which looks more like its big brother, the BS6, and also minor exterior modifications such as new wing mirrors, the rear end has also been given a lift and tuck.
The updated BS4 is expected to launch later this year at the Beijing Auto Show. Pricing is expected to be similar to current prices.
